City Commissioners
City of Clearwater
112 S. Osceola Ave.
Clearwater, FL 334615
Dear Mayor and Commissioners:
I would like to express my appreciation for your leadership and interest in improving Clearwater's
#1 Industry and prize asset, tourism and our Sparkling Beach. City management and staff have
provided not only great enthusiasm and cooperation, but a high level of knowledge and expertise.
At the last Special Beach meeting, you stated that citizens should submit Beach issues to be
considered for your future agenda. Therefore, I would kindly request the foHowing for your
consideration:
Sidewalk. South Gulfyiew Replacement of this obsolete, unsafe sidewalk with a new wide
concrete walk is long overdue. The existing walk is narrow, broken and unable to handle the
current density and handicapped demands. This walk serves all the adjacent hotels and
. restaurants, but is also the only major pedestrian link between the north and south beach. The
existing east side right of way can easily accommodate n 10 foot wide walkway. The discussion
of a Boardwalk could go on for another 10 years but, in any case, this sidewalk will always be a
basic necessity.
Events Marquee With all the events and happenings in Clearwater at the hotels,
Harborview Center and Parks and Rec. a marquee sign near the new Pier 60 entranCe would be of
great benefit to all. At this central location the City could post tournaments, antique shows: .
festivals, music concerts, exhibits, arid conventions.
Beach Eire Pit A beach campfire should not be lost to only memories of the past. A
natural stone fire pit with a locking steel lid could be used by Parks and Rec. to accompany nature
talks and other evening events. This could be a simple, but very attractive asset along side the
new Beach Pavilion.
Tiki Huts (See attached photo card) Since Florida's natural beauty is our best asset, a
Tiki Hut and other tropical landscaping could add to our beautiful island landscape. The City
could lease these for family reunions, picnics and special events or businesses. These would not
only be a useful attraction, but also good source of income for the City: On a daily basis they
could rent for $25.00 to $40.00 a day and more on Holidays and Weekends. They could be built
on skids like our life guard stands to meet DER standards.
Parkin~ Lot Si~ns Currently traffic is backing up around the Pier 60 lot because people do
not know that there are two additional parking lots to the south. If the lots were marked 1, 2 and
3 with arrows people would know to go to the next lot for quicker Beach access and parking.

Manifove Trimrnini For those people who did not own waterfront property a drive to
the Beach across Memorial causeway and down South Gulfview Blvd. was often their only
opportunity to enjoy this public asset. Having lost the view along South Gulfview Blvd. to 15
foot mounds of sea oats and now almost 50% of the view along the causeway to mangroves the
City is unfortunately loosing one ofits most beautiful vistas and least expensive forms of
advertizing. Perhaps the DER would consider an exchange project to move or replant some of
the species on the spoil islands that now dot our intercoastal waterway thru out PinelJas County.
Many of these islands are currently covered in Brazilian Pepper and Australian Pine trees. This
could be a joint project with the County that would solve the vista problem and transfonn these
neglected spoil islands into either tropical recreational islands and/or habitat sanctuaries.
Thank you for the consideration I trust you will give to these items. If! can be of any assistance
please do not hesitate to call me. I believe that there may be some business men in the community
who would be willing to either contribute or raise money for the marquee) fire pit and perhaps
Beach landscaping.
Sincerely~
~~.~
