ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2001 - 2002 2001 2002 ANNUAL REPORT · Childhood without Fear · Generation or Hope · Second Chances · Hate-free Community YWCA of Tampa Bay Annual Report 2001/2002 Pro~ram Hi~hli~hts · Provided countywide child care for 617 children ages from birth to 12-years old. · Children at our Jordan Park Child Development Center enthusiastically welcomed Governor Jeb Bush, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker, and several city council members to their center. · Steady enrollment growth at our Safety Harbor Child Development Center and continued relationship building with the Neighborhood Center. · Provided academics, life skills and counseling services for 215 pregnancy and parenting adolescents, 97% of which did not have a subsequent pregnancy and 86% were attending school or graduated within one year after program. · Provided Teen Pregnancy Prevention program to approximately 651 in middle to high schools and 285 youth in Juvenile Justice System. · Collaborated with Healthy Start to provide 101 pregnant women and their coaches with childbirth education. · Healthy Families Pinellas (one of our collaborations) received "Best Practices Community Collaboration" award from the Child Welfare League of America. · Expanded youth development program to two additional locations and a second group in the St. Petersburg program. · Enhanced National YWCA Week Without Violence program with youth development participants planning and implementing activities in their countywide schools. · Increased effectiveness of youth development progran1 by entering a formal agreement with USF to conduct a stringent evaluation. · Partnered with "A Thousand Points of Knowledge Learning Center" to provide effective academic skills instruction. · First Annual Past Presidents Luncheon was held and proved extremely successful. · Enhanced services at Family Village by adding a playground and children's activity room for family use. · Expanded services at Family Village by adding full-time staff position for before/after school and sununer program; also a bilingual social worker. · Increased visibility of YWCA Hispanic Services through conferences, festivals, victim advocacy, and utilizing YWCA interpreters in new ways. · Collaborated with the Mexican Council of Tampa Bay and hosted a six-week summer program reacquainting 28 Mexican children with the cultures and traditions of their homeland. · Collaborated with City of Clearwater to renovate a building to be utilized as a Hispanic Outreach Center. · Collaborated with Allegany Franciscan Foundation to produce two Hispanic Summits. · Hosted a World YWCA intern from Peru visiting the United States to attend an International Women's Conference in Washington, DC. · Provided leadership in the reorganization of the YWCA's national office. · YWCA Board Member, Carlen Petersen, was elected to the YWCA of the USA National Coordinating Board. · Peggy Sanchez Mills, CEO, was appointed as chair of the Southeast Region Peer Review Committee. · Peggy Sanchez Mills was awarded the prestigious United Way Alex de Tocqueville Society Leadership A ward for her dedication, leadership and distinguished service to Pinellas County. ASSET: Successfully completed a rigorous eight month self-study assessment and peer review process required by Juvenile Welfare Board of Pin ell as County. The certification process examined varied supporting documentation for evidence of compliance to twelve administration and nine program standards. The certification outcome indicates "the YWCA of Tampa Bay has demonstrated that's its administrative and program services are of high quality, measurable, and accountable." Further, "there is clear evidence of substantial fulfillment of the ASSET standards and it is apparent that the present conditions represent an established pattern of operation that is likely to be maintained and/or improved in the foreseeable future."
