PENSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
CITY OF CLEARWATER
July 10, 2008

The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall.
To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not
necessarily discussed in that order.
2. Approval of Minutes of June 12, 2008
Member Petersen moved to approve the minutes of the regular Pension Advisory
Committee meeting of June 12, 2008, as submitted in written summation to each board
member. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.
3. Employees to be Heard – None.
4. Action Items
a. Review and Action on Employee Requests for Regular Pensions:
1. Christina Keenan, Police
2. Ray Boler, Public Services
Member Schmalzbauer moved to approve the requests for regular pensions for Christina
Keenan and Ray Boler. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.
b. Review and Action on Employee Requests to Vest Pensions:
1. Gary Johnson, Solid Waste
Gary Johnson, Solid Waste, has resigned his position after being employed with the City
for more than ten years of credited service. He will qualify for his pension beginning October 1,
2011.
Member De Witt moved to recommend approval of the request by Gary Johnson to vest
his pension. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.

c. Approval of New Hires as Plan Members:
Member Petersen moved to accept the following employees into membership in the
Pension Plan:

The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.
5. Pending/New Business
a. Hearing on George Agovino’s Request for Disability Pension – Continued to 9/11/08 at
Request of Mr. Agovino’s Attorney
Human Resources Director Joe Roseto reported that Mr. Agovino has requested his
case be continued to September 11, 2008. He said the City will contest the application.
Member Petersen moved to continue the hearing regarding George Agovino’s request
for a disability pension to September 11, 2008. The motion was duly seconded and carried
unanimously.
6. Director’s Reports
Mr. Roseto welcomed new PAC (Pension Advisory Committee) Member Brian De Witt.
He encouraged members to attend the August 18, 2008 Pension Trustees meeting as
discussion will take place regarding the pros and cons of a defined benefit pension plan as
compared to a defined contribution pension plan. The pension attorney and pension actuary
also will be present at the meeting.
7. Committee Members to be Heard
Members welcomed new member Brian De Witt.
Member Doran expressed best wishes to employees who recently retired. He wished
Ray Boler good luck with his new job in Safety Harbor.
Member Hightower apologized for his absence at previous meetings as he was out of
town. He said he is honored to be Chair again.
