A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEAR WATER, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE
FLORIDA DEPAR TMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO
INSTALL RAILROAD CROSSING FLASHERS ANDIOR
GATES AT SEMINOLE STREET, FAIRMONT STREET,
WOODLAWN AVENUE, PARK STREET, LAURA STREET,
FRANKLIN STREET AND GRAND CENTRAL STREET
AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO PAYS ITS A~UAL
SHARE OF MAINTENANCE COST.
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation is coordinating
a program throughout the State of Florida, utilizing Federal funds, to
eliminate hazardous railroad crossing locations through the installation of
crossing flashers and/or gates; and
WHEREAS, seven (7) locations exist in the City of Clearwater,
Florida, which are eligible for such program; and
WHEREAS, such crossing sites can be found at Seminole Street,
Fairmont Street, Woodlawn Avenue, Park Street, Laura Street, Franklin
Street and Grand Central Street; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater, Florida, wishes to participate in
such program and as a part of such participation is willing to pay one-half
(1/2) the annual operating and maintenance cost at each crossing not to
exceed $615.00 per year per crossing location;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
hereby requests the Florida Department of Transportation to include the
following crossing locations found in Clearwater, Florida, in its program of
installing crossing flashers andlor gates at hazardous railroad crossing
locations: Seminole Street, Fairmont Street, Woodlawn Avenue, Park
Street, Laura Street, Franklin Street and Grand Central Street.
2. That the City of Clearwater, Florida, is willing to pay one-half
(1/2) the annual operating and maintenance costs at each crossing location
with such costs not to exceed $615.00 per year per cros sing location.

3. That the Mayor-Commissioner, City Manager, City Clerk and
City Attorney be authorized to enter into such agreement with the Florida
Department of Transportation as will coordinate the program and cost items
described herein.
4. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its
adoption.

RE: 1980/81 Rai Iroad Safety Program
Dear Sir:
As part of the Departments Ra i 1 road Si gna I Safety Program the attached cross i ng (s)
qual ify for the up-grading of signal protective devices.
Funding for this program is being obtained from the Federal Highway Safety Act on
a ninety/ten basis with matching funds provided by the Department.
In crcJer to participate in this program, the City wi II be required to assume haff the
mail1tenance cost of the rai Iroad signals based on an annual rate schedule. The City's
share of maintenance costs for each crossing wi 1 I not exceed $615.00 per year according
to the rate schedule, which wi 1 I be made a Tri~Party Agreement.
It wi II be necesscry to know by June 27, 1980, if the City wishes to participate in
this much 'needed program.
