Subject: shoppes on sand key
steven,
i would like to express my displeasure at the suggestion of closing the shoppes on sand key.
aesthetically, the shops are part of the charm of sand key. they are what brings tourists to the island. they are not dumpy, low end stores. they are of the caliber that tourists enjoy,
frequent and spend at. i put the restaurants up against the best in the area.
on the practical side, the shops are the only retail establishments on the island. i personally use the grocery store constantly, i have an account at the bank. we frequent the restaurants.
there are people in my building that can no longer drive. this is where they get groceries. doing away with these stores will force us to get into our cars and drive the already crowded
streets. now we can (and do) walk. i have become friends with the clerks.
closing the shops will put scores of people out of their jobs. these businesses are people's livelihoods! please consider that before dumping them on the street.
the last thing we need is yet another condo/hotel complex. it would do nothing to service the residents and tourists on sand key. imho, the city of clearwater should clean up the mess
on clearwater beach before ruining sand key. make clearwater beach a place where people would enjoy visiting and shopping, make clearwater beach a success before messing with sand key.
i won't even start on the additional traffic and hotel/condo will create.
sand key is an oasis. please leave it alone. let us continue to have access to retail and restaurants. for once, put greed aside and don't ruin our neighborhood.
reguards,
