03/13/2008 PENSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES CITY OF CLEARWATER March 13, 2008 Present: Nathan Hightower Chair Tom Jensen Vice-Chair John Schmalzbauer Committee Member Carlen Petersen Committee Member/Councilmember John Doran Committee Member/Councilmember Stephen Sarnoff Committee Member Paul Gibson Committee Member/Councilmember Also Present: Joe Roseto Human Resources Director Patricia O. Sullivan Board Reporter The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. at City Hall. To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that order. 2 - Approval of Minutes Member Jensen moved to approve the minutes of the regular Pension Advisory Committee meeting of February 14, 2008, as submitted in written summation to each board member. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. 3 – Employees to be Heard – None. 4 – Action Items: a. Review and Action on Employee Requests for Regular Pensions: 1. Gary DeYoung, Solid Waste/General Services 2. James McGee, Public Services 3. James Battle, Parks & Recreation Member Sarnoff moved to approve the requests for regular pensions for Gary DeYoung, James, McGee, and James Battle. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. b. Review and Action on Employee Requests to Vest Pensions: 1. Barbara Borgan, Customer Service Barbara Borgan, Customer Service, has resigned her position after being employed by the City for more than 15 years. She will qualify to receive her reduced pension beginning September 1, 2012. Member Doran moved to recommend approval of the request by Barbara Borgan to vest his pension. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. Pension Advisory 2008-03-13 1 c. Approval of New Hires as Plan Members: Member Schmalzbauer moved to accept the following employees into membership in the Pension Plan: Name, Job Class. & Dept./Div Hire Date Pension Eligible Date Andrew Forte, Parking Enforcement Specialist/Engineering Anthony Lenning, Recreation Specialist/Parks & Recreation Charlene Auclair, Accounting Clerk/Finance Samantha Bright, Library Assistant/Library Amy Bure, Police Cadet/Police Travis Nuttall, Senior Marine Lifeguard/Marine & Aviation 02/04/08 02/04/08 02/04/08 07/12/04 02/18/08 02/19/08 02/04/08 02/04/08 02/04/08 02/04/08 02/18/08 02/19/08 Charlene Auclair originally was hired as part-time on July 12, 2004; status changed to full-time and pension eligible as of February 4, 2008. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. 5 - Pendinq/New Business Human Resources Director Joe Roseto reported that Chair Hightower's term as the committee's seventh member is expiring. He is willing to serve another term. The committee can request additional nominees. Member Doran moved to appoint Nathan Hightower to another term as the committee's seventh member. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. Staff will agenda a report on the Chair and Vice Chair positions. 6 - Director's Report: None. 7 - Committee Members to be Heard Member Sarnoff attended the Pension Attorney's recent conference.
