Vito Nigrelli was was not able to attend.
The purpose of this meeting was for the Steering Committee to identify which demographic sub-
groups needed to be analyzed as part for the final Community Consensus report.
In the preliminary report, Dr. Graves had already included sub-group summary analyses of age,
ethnic groups, income levels, year-round and seasonal residents, and four neighborhood areas.
It was understood by Jeff Harper, that no additional costs would be incurred by including extra
sub-group analyses at that time, but if there was an analysis requested after the final
presentation, there would be a charge of $1 ,000 per sub-group. Tony Salmon suggested, on that
basis, including all possible sub-goup analyses. Jim McCurtain thought this would be an
overload of data. Janice Case noted the large number of retirees who participated.
Commissioner Deegan added that he didn't think the Commission would make any decisions
based on gender.
There was some discussion concerning whether it was the place of the Steering Committee or
of the City Commisssion to make the decisions on which sub-groups should be analyzed.
The Steering Committee reviewed the demographic data and agreed to have Dr. Graves include
the following sub-groups:
I
I
1) Yearly and seasonal residents.
2) Employed (full and part-time) and retired.
3) Those who own and/or work in a Clearwater business
(as one sub-group) and those who do not.
4) Age groups as used in the preliminary report.
5) Ethnic groups as used in the preliminary report.
6) Household incomes as used in the preliminary report.
7) The following six neighborhoods:
Countryside/Northwood
Island Estates/Clearwater Beach/Sand Key
North & South Greenwood
Morningside/Meadows/Tropic Hills
N & S Central Clearwater/M~n'tclair/Marymont/Coachman/Skycrest
Harbor Oaks/North & South Ft. Harrison
The group agreed they would like the final report to include both the subgroup summary
analyses ahd the "Confidence Interval Reports". Also discussed were the four meetings where
Dr. Graves had presented the preliminary results and the reactions from the public to these
results.
The editorial about the consensus results written by Diane Steinle from the St. Petersburg Times
was also briefly discussed.
The next Steering Committee meeting was scheduled for February 3, 1994 at 9:30 in the Large
Conference Room in the City Manager's Office. On this date Dr. Graves will present the final
report, first to the Steering Committee, and then, that evening at the City Commission meeting.
The meeting ended at approximately 12:05 pm.
