The purpose of today's meeting was to develop a presentation for the City Council Work Session resulting
from the USF presentation:
1. We want to have a Green City Certification from the FGBC & strive for the Gold level.
2. As a vision for the Environmental Advisory Board, the City of Clearwater will be a leader in
"Green" Sustainability.
3. Green House Gas Survey
4. Energy Management & Sustainability
5. Partnership with Pinellas County
Mike Flanery stated that the following points are to be considered for the presentation to the City Council:
a. Why are we going Green? Why is sustainability important?
Health - Physical
Energy - Long Term Plan, Reduce Energy & Cost Efficient
b. Why in Clearwater?
We are a "CLEAR- WATER" City
Unique opportunity - USF Students "jump started our efforts"
Want to be Green City Certified from the FGBC
Go for the LEEDS Certification
c. Why now?
Support of the Mayor initiative in signing the US Conference of Mayors
d. How can we move this forward?
Need continued support and cooperation from City Council
e. Method to follow up in steps?
The following to be initiated by the City Council:
a. Working with Pinellas County and the City
Need City Council's Direction
b. Continue working on the website with the City

d. Require every department to be involved and cooperation needed for certification.
Member Joe Calio suggested the following:
EAB to invite Bob Fernandez of the Farmers Market to give a talk on Organic Farms at a
future EAB meeting.
To utilize Crest Lake Park or others for Community Gardens, the economic
demographics of the neighborhood would be an opportunity to grow their own vegetables
inexpensively.
